Story: At Phoenix Progressive School, where everyone tries to outdo each other with creative self-expression, 16-year-old Molly Maxwell (Lola Tash) would rather be invisible than risk revealing herself as completely ordinary. When her young, handsome, disillusioned English teacher (Charlie Carrick) enters the picture and allows her to just be herself, Molly is suddenly able to flourish. As their student-teacher bond becomes more intimate, she begins putting herself on the line in unexpected ways while pursuing what she wants. What a surprising treat! I had a spontaneous moment today and went towatch this movie at Carlton. Having no idea what the movie is aboutwalking in, I may have been a bit of an outsider to the sold-outscreening where people were fighting for a seat and adding chairs allalong the aisle. I knew then that I was going to get my money's worth.And sure I did. I was literally stunned by its artistic interpretationof adolescent, alienation, and pure innocent love. The Q&A session washilarious, and my gosh, Charlie Carrick is gorgeous! A rising starindeed. Go buy the ticket, and I promise you that you won't bedisappointed.

A great Indie film that tells a very real story in a touching andunique way. This film deals with student/teacher relationships andeverything about growing up and falling in love. Molly Maxwell is justyour average precocious teenage girl... sort of. Her world opens upwhen she becomes just a little too close to a favorite new teacher atthe alternative high school that she attends. In order to complete herrequirements at school, Molly is forced to pick an extra-curricularelective, she chooses photography and arranges for her adviser to bethe young and attractive English teacher. An innocent relationshipquickly becomes an uncomfortable and forbidden romance. Actors, LolaTash and Charlie Carrick, give excellent performances, showing a realchemistry on the screen. Dealing with growing pains of young love,forbidden fruit and awkward side of parenting, Molly takes us on asexy, loopy, sometimes awkward and often amusing, ride.

Wow, what a fearless and honest film! By bringing thissemi-autobiographical story to the screen, director Sara St. Onge hasbrought nuance and complexity to a topic that is often reduced toabsurd oversimplification. This film resonates with authenticity andpersonal truths. And the actors are equally impressive: Lola Tash andCharlie Carrick are completely convincing in the lead roles. "MollyMaxwell" isn't just an entertaining film; it's also an important filmand a great work of art.
I look forward to seeing the director's next project. "Molly Maxwell"is certainly an excellent debut!
